Decal - Forget the 80's - Satamile 08
A dark production from an Irish duo who ended up since 1993 with various releases on Warp, Ultramack, Saberettes, Trama, Lo Recordings, Planet Mu or Satamile. Inspired by Carl Finlow, Alan O Boyle & Dennis McNulty, based in Dublin, offer three innovative and brilliant cuts. If "Saty Dazed" will surprise because of a fast tempo, "Prepare to merge", accompanied with anguished vocal, and panted "Riptide", a progressive long-player with an explosive climax, should satisfy lovers of terrific sounds. Awesome ! www.satamile.com Nexus 6, 05/03/2002

V/A - Love It - Kazumi 29 | |
Hard to surpass the original !!! Yet that's what Diego, Luygi Van and Andreas Kremer tried to do with delivering remixes of "Love It", a brilliant hard techno track produced by obscure Invexis. If Diego shows a deep a spacey face, close to Kanzleramt style, Luygi Van and almost all Andreas Kremer go further into bass, both offering experimental and minimal levels. Dealing with remixes would be a little excessive. On the other hand, those successful reworks will be efficient on every set. Excellent ! www.pornostarmusic.com Nexus 6, 04/03/2002

Zohar - The Real Story EP - Energy Industries 17
One of the first techno releases from Yugoslavia and it already gained recognition throughout the old continent. Djordje Nikolic aka Zohar expresses his feelings about the past war situation in the country and his music reflects it perfectly. It talks about 10 years of torments, survival and strength of Serbian people. 'Shizofrenija' has got some... read more Lesha, 01/03/2002

S.I. Futures - Eurostar - Novamute 86
"Trans Europe Express" in a 2002 version ? Taken from prolific Si Begg last album "The Mission Statement", "Eurostar" single comes out today with three high quality reworks Under its favourite pseudo, UK artist shows his passion for breaks on "S.I. Futures Edit" while legendary Sven Vath explores the hard side of techno in a brilliant way thanks to heavy bass and experimental sounds. But the very best version, a perfect vocoded and syncopated tune inspired by Kraftwerk, is due to rare and mysterious Tipper. This EP will satisfy 4/4 rhythm lovers and electro-break freaks. Excellent !!! www.mute.com Nexus 6, 28/02/2002

Rino Cerrone - Rilis Special Edition 2.5
After almost a year, the second of ten Ri'li:s special edition records is here. Rino Cerrone, the label owner, stays faithful to minimal & funky tech house groove he's already famous for. As we have said in Rilis 1.5 review, the BPM is still the same with loop ended tracks which makes them perfect for 3 deck mixing, what's exactly Rino's DJ style.... read more Lesha, 26/02/2002

Misc. - Relay EP - Sender 12
The German label from Berlin welcomes one more time Hannes Wenner & Christopher Bleckmann, a duo based in Cologne and already known for some releases on Force Tracks and Minus (under the name Niederflur). Between minimal house and techno, the two tracks of the A side come with strange voice samples and sounds remembering reggae and then oldschool (thanks to a piano) atmospheres. On the B side, my favourite one, the basslines get louder, the rhythms are both clear and strong and the mix of raw and deep sounds is perfect. Très classe ! 2 Dollar Egg - 4-rooms - I220 29
Your attention please ! After a long break, German producers from Frankfurt Erik Besiér and Gordon Heinicke come back I220 with an amazing release. Firstly, the cover is beautiful. The two inside covers designed with pastel colours are very nice too. Then, the 2x12" bring five high quality tracks which sound and structure are nearly perfect.... read more Ludo, 22/02/2002

Deepchord - DC 14 | |
Releases of the label based in Detroit follow one after the other and look alike ! A soft and sweet sound, a dub, minimal and hypnotising atmosphere : the recipe originally brought by Maurizio is reproduced here with the same talent. There is nothing new but rather something magical because we are trapped each time from the moment a track starts ! Irresistible. Check it on Deepchord web site. www.deepchord.com Ludo, 21/02/2002

Michael Langlois - pure - Sub Static 11
As we informed you previously, the 11th release of the label from Cologne is fully dedicated to Michael Langlois. This German producer likes and controls perfectly the minimal techno style. The first track called "snap", 8 minutes long, is something like a "locomotive" : dirty & noisy background, massive rhythm, funky percussion's. Impressive... "pure" is made of short and clear sounds coming with a pumpin' rhythm. At last, "freefly" takes the same elements and adds some strings and deeper sounds. A really nice EP. Super Stereo - Afternoon EP - Facets 04
The Swedish label is back with this excellent 12" by Petter Fripp & Martin Frick aka Super Stereo. The A side start with "Afternoon" the main title : groovy house, low basslines, strings, piano samples and melodies. The producer from New-York Alexi Delano aka Adny brings a remix version with its own sweet & funky touch. On the B side, Super Stereo delivers two tracks a little bit more techno, with US style warm sounds ("chocolate") or even spacious sounds ("tea, scones and marmelade"), always so deep, groovy and melodious. Simply beautiful. Check it ! www.backbone-digital.com Ludo, 19/02/2002

Jeff Bennet - Smirching - Treibstoff 2017
Let's go for two high quality long-players on the 17th release of the label based in Cologne ! In a minimal techno dub style, the Swedish producer shows one more time how he is talented (he already wrote various tracks on Poker Flat, Episode, Konvex Konkav, Audio Beyond and on his own label Kung Fu Dub). The sounds are beautiful, the rhythm is both pure and pumpin', the basslines are deep... all these elements make the two tracks very hypnotising. Simply perfect.
