Freddy Fresh - Watch That Sound - Millenium Records

Begun on "Music For The Swingers", excellent big beat album released in May on NY label Brooklyn Music, Freddy's musical turning point ends today with "Watch That Sound". With a great many vocoder and syncopated beat, Minneapolis genius signs within twelve tracks a successful come back into its first loves. Until now, associated with Omar Santana on Tricked Out, or alone on his EMF, Sockett and Butterbeat labels, US artist used to defend the old school side of electro. But, since the new departure of Electric Music Foundation, re-launched in the beginning of the year, ex Invisible Man music introduces a modern face, in phase with contemporary productions. It is notably the case with this new opus. Overture "Watch That Sound" as well as "Freestylin'", "Bounus Beat", "On the Cought" and "Watchtower" tracks offer subtle mix of analogic synthesizers, new-school bassline, acid sounds and filtered lyrics. Less dancefloor, melancholic "Silence", "Sockapella", "Shijinku" and "Mogwai" (a remix version, original title appeared in 1996 on Analog UK) alternate ambient, progressive, abstract and deep electro. At last, magnificent "Underwater Living", an exciting re-edit of classic "Air" on EMF11 1.0 version who will surprise you by its melodic sound and offbeat rhythm, and "The Centurion" (EMF06) show what B-Boy from St Paul is capable, having experienced over the last ten years every kind of electronic genre. To sum up, this varied and hypnotic album delivers a constant deep electro mood due to a perfect and unique use of analogical strings and modulators. Unfortunately, "Watch That Sound" will not appear in vinyl version.
