Unfortunately, this EP should be the last release published by German label Forte Records. Released just before Christian Morgenstern left us, "Cutting your head off" is exactly what the German producer build up from some years: launching new artists who have a very personal style, most of the time offering them a full album (cf. Ural 13 Diktators, Moshikop, Dr Shingo, Codec & Flexor). This is what was initially planned with Christian Straub aka Solar. His first album "Soulless" was supposed to follow this EP. We hope that "Soulless" will be released one day because this debut single is more that promising. "All alone" starts the A side in an electro industrial style quite slow with a voice that can remember Front 242. "Ghosts - Remute remix" is totally in the powerful techno style with lo-fi 80's influences we can find in some tracks by Christian Morgenstern or other Forte releases. The lyrics, the melancholic sounds and voice make this tune very strong and significant today. Absolutely outstanding. The original version of "Ghosts" is also very successful: dark electro dark with a bassline very "computer sound" / PocketGame and always this voice coming from nowhere. On the B side, back to electro - somewhere between new-wave and Ebm - with "Cutting your head off" that brings this time a nice distorted voice. No doubt, Sonar has a great savoir-faire! Finally, The Horrorist revisits this track in a techno rave way. The dancefloor will be rocked for sure!! So as you guessed, it's not necessary to mention that this EP is a must have. We strongly hope that Christian Straub will be able to release his album because he deserves to join the electro techno scene! www.forterecords.com Ludo, 18/07/2003
